Alcohol as an Indicator of Domestic Violence Alcohol plays a substantial role both qualitatively and quantitatively in domestic violence against women. While certain past casework has underplayed the role of alcohol in domestic violence, the most recent casework supports this fact in countries and societies around the world. Women living in these societies experience a greater incidence of domestic violence when alcohol is involved. They also come to greater physical harm when their male partners consume alcohol.
