Analysis and Evaluation of Model and Theory This paper examines the Hypothesis Identification Article and the Newman Theory of Health as Expanding Consciousness. Theory relies upon a finite set of variables and criterion for its use. Therefore, it is an abstraction with no physical representation other than in the results. A model, however, is a very physical realization of ideas and theoretical guidelines as well as breeding ground for new theories. It is the purpose of this paper to examine theory and model in nursing using Margaret NewmanÂ’s Theory of Health as Expanding Consciousness and model in Sister Callista RoyÂ’s Adaptation Model.
