A Critical Evaluation of Fred Sommers Critique of Kantian Ethics in The Holocaust and Moral Philosophy In the essay “The holocaust and moral philosophy” Fred Sommers sets out to account for the acquiescence of the German people in the holocaust during the Second World War. The Nazis are variously estimated to have killed between 6 and 21 million Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, handicapped or sick people, and others, during the six years they rampaged through Europe. Although the Soviets and the Chinese killed more people altogether, they had much more time to do this; the Nazis killed the most people per year that any regime has ever killed (“Democide in Nazi Germany”).
