Adaptation to Chronic Illness This paper analyzes the adaptation to chronic illness of a family in which an elderly man with emphysema and other breathing problems returns to his family after 36 years and is cared for, placing stress on the family unit and raising questions about what communtiy resources are availalbe and which can be accessed to offer help to the family without taking all the family's money.
