An Historiography of American Expansion to the West. This paper will discuss the books The Frontier in American History by Frederick Jackson Turner, Roaring Camp: The Social World of the California Gold Rush by Susan Lee Johnson, The Legacy of Conquest: The Unbroken Past of the American West by Patricia Limerick, and White Scourge: Mexicans, Blacks, and Poor Whites in Texas Cotton Culture by Neil Foley. By assessing a historiography, we can see how these historians present different perspectives on historical writing in American expansionism to the West.
