21003 Research Proposal: Examining Motives for Learning in Older Adults This is a proposal for research aimed at understanding these motives in order to increase older adults? access to and participation in learning activities that will improve their physical health and quality of life. The study is grounded in empirical research techniques conducted during interviews in community centres, and uses both the Mini-Mental State Exam and Roger Boshier?s Educational Participation Scale to shed light on the specific motivations that older adults in community-based learning environments have. Other variables explored in the proposed research include the influence of socio-economic status, gender, and race on participation in informal learning after age 65.
